The new extension of the cottage sits as another monopitch and masonry element within the existing vernacular, agricultural cluster. Form, siting and material references from the existing cottage have been integrated into the new proposed structure.

The existing ‘street’ is given a strong active edge of living spaces, creating a distinctive entrance courtyard which doubles a south facing terrace and play space.  The low overhanging eave creates sheltered external space whilst protecting the south facing internal spaces from excessive solar gain. A new bay window is angled towards the views of the existing barn and open fields to the south and Sliabh Gullion to the North. The geometry of this bay creates a deep window seat which acts as the focal point of the new internal space.
