A proposal for a new dwelling in rural county Down.  A collection of new spaces and forms cluster around a converted barn and step across the rocky hillside.  The new composition is intended as a playful abstraction of the forms and shapes of the typical farmsteads that can be seen on surrounding distant hillsides. The resulting seemingly ad–hoc arrangement is deeply responsive to immediate topography and micro–climate.  The material palette of concrete, stone aggregate, lime and hardwood is restrained and robust, with inspiration taken from the existing barn buildings and an age–weathered granite rock found near the site by the client.
